WHAT TO DO WITH THOSE LEFTOVER XMAS BULBS?!

When Christmastime gets hectic.... I just envision myself at the Target "after Christmas sale!" It's become a tradition of mine the last couple of years. This year I concentrated just bulbs! I LOVE the new, shatterproof bulbs that are available now, especially since they don't break!

I've spent the last week collecting these bulbs from just about every store that has xmas decor!

I'm planning on making Christmas bulb WREATHS, GARLANDS & SWAGS! This is one I've just made, it is a late xmas gift for a friend.

So I wanted to share it with you all... More fun pics and projects to come!

Fall- It's the MOST Wonderful Time of the Year!

Happy Fall Y'all.... For me, there is nothing better than this time of year! The air, is much cooler, the trees are changing colors, and I LOVE the sound of football on the tv! So many NEW & Exciting things are happening at T Party Designs, my etsy shop is growing and I'm having such a great time.

This next couple of months will bring lots of change, including a new warehouse/office space (my DH, gets his garage back!) New company name & branding~ we will be blending the two companies; T Party Designs, which started as my baking business... and "From Junk to Jenius" My Upcycling/ Decor business, will be blended into one new brand, Jennie Lynne. Including a whole new website; JennieLynne.com, which will include EVERYTHING from my baking items, party decor & home furnishings. Wheew, makes me tired just thinking about it.

We are also gearing up for this years "Holiday Boutique"- my 2nd annual, which will include offerings from so many of my talented friends!

I'll keep you all updated as we go! I hope you've all had fun prepping for the Holidays and all the fun projects that come with it. I know I have. Here's a few of my latest projects, I wanted to share with you!

Wow... it's hard to believe
that I have had my Etsy Shop:

for six months!

I only opened my Etsy shop because my doctor, wanted me to give my injured knee a 3 month break, from my custom cake business. Crafts & creativity have always been a great passion of mine, and it cheers me up! So I went to "work" on some projects that I had been wanting to do for my new house. After my first project was done- a vintage 1970's headboard turned into a chalkboard/memo center-a couple of my friends had asked me to make them a replica. It was so much fun, that I thought I'd try out Etsy and see if anyone else would be interested....and they were! This past six months has been and adventure, and I believe a BLESSING!

Getting the Best Blooms for a few Bucks!

Do you LOVE gardening? I do! So I wanted to share some of my flowers with you!

I love the feeling of accomplishment I get, when last years-

"blood, sweat & tears," shows in the form of thriving, rescued begonias!

When we bought our "dream home" last Spring, I went to work on the twelve garden beds! With a new mortgage, and a house much larger than our last to fill with furniture- my budget was tight to say the least.

So, as always.... I had to use my resources.

I started by relocating some of the plants/flowers that were in the back, that I wanted to showcase in the front yard. Our new house is beautiful, but totally lacked "curb appeal!" I also wanted to use some of the spaces in a different way, so by simply moving stuff around, it was like getting a whole garden of new plants.

Another great way to save is by "adopting" some of the poor lil' plants in the discount bin at Lowe's. I've had such good luck, giving new life to these cast-offs. Most of these are marked about 75% off, so what do you have to lose? With a little nourishment & love, these plants with thrive.

Plant propagation is a fun & FREE way to multiply your blooms! The internet is full of information, videos and pictures, to teach you everything you need to know about multiplying your favorite plants.


Better Homes & Gardens, has GREAT INFO

I get a lot of my information from my Better Homes & Gardens magazine, as well as BHG.com. You can find a full list of supplies, along with complete instructions.

Last but not least, for garden savings is the "clearance items" in on-line garden suppliers! I personally love SPRING HILL NURSERIES, and I signed up for email notifications. I just received a shipment of plants, trees, and flowers- that were ALL 75% off the regular price! Including a peony that I have been wanting for a year, but was too cheap to shell out the $50 for!
Last year, I got four amazing hydrangea bushes that are doing very well! Hydrangeas are my absolute favorite, and I can't wait to see them bloom this year!

So get out there, use your resources, and get your hands dirty! I'd love to see you garden pictures, so please share!

It's an exciting day! I'm pleased to bring you, the first edition of~

T Party's Peeps!

Spotlight Interviews, with some of our creative & fun-tastic readers!

Our first interview is with the extremely talented & fun, Jessica Mitchell of

{Jessica Mitchell Photography }

I met Jessica when she bought a few of my

talk-bubble chalkboards from my Etsy shop, to use in an photo shoot. I became a "fan" of hers on facebook, and started to follow her post. Each time she posted a picture, I LOVED it more than her last. Her photos are whimsical and aesthetically pleasing. I know you will get a kick out of her work as much as I do. Jessica lives in Alabama, and is married with two beautiful children.

Here is our conversation:

How long have you been working with photography?What originally sparked your interest in photography? *My father bought me my first camera when I was 15. I fell in love with capturing moments in my life that I know I'd want to re-live later on in life :)
* I've been doing Professional Photography for 10 1/2 years now!! Wow I feel old saying that.. LOL!

If you could live anywhere in this awesome planet where would you build your dream home?
*Hm...that's a good one. I'll go with Tennessee. I absolutely *love* the mountains and all they have to offer in scenery and tranquility. And.. it's not too far away from home :)

What is it about photography that appeals to you?
*Photography is a way to re-live those special moments in your life. Whether it is the birth of a child to first-time parents, Senior Portraits, or even that long-awaited Wedding Day. Your Portraits are one of the only things that can take you back to that exact moment in time.

You shoot a range of material; tell us about your work, and your style?
*I love everything about Photography! There is not a moment in someone's life that I don't want to help capture. My latest obsession is Newborns. They are just so pure and full of love. I have also decided to take the BIG leap and start doing Weddings this year! I've been going back and forth on this idea for about 3 years now, and finally decided this is the year. So far I've got one booked every month until June! What a way to start off :)
My style. Hm... Well, I love capuring "the" moment. I love the silly faces that kids give when they don't realize I'm still clicking away, the special smile that newly engaged couples exchange, and the first kiss as husband and wife. I'm all about doing a few "posed" shots, but what I love even more is letting each client be themself.

What adjectives do you use to describe your photography?

*Creative, Fun,Different, Natural

What would you suggest to people just beginning with photography, particularly for those hoping to follow in your footsteps?
* Practice, Practice, Practice! You can NEVER know everything about Photography.. it's just not possible. Do what you love, and as long as you enjoy it.. it will show in your work.

Do you have a "funniest moment" during a shoot, that you would like to share?
*Let me start this by saying this... when you shoot Newborns.. you have to be prepared for EVERYTHING! So during a recent Newborn shoot, I was in the middle of posing this little rascal, when all of sudden I started smelling something.. I look down and he had pooped all over me! All down my shirt/pants... it was everywhere!!! Thank goodness my studio is at my house, so after all the laughter and jokes I took a 5 minute break to change clothes! Like I said, you have to be prepared for anything! LOL :)

I asked Jessica to share her 3 favorite shots, I'm also including my Top 3 shots of Jessica's!

Please share with us your top 3 favorite shots you've done EVER, and tell us why they are your FAVs!

This just so happens to be my daughter! It was one of her MANY Newborn shots that I just can't stop looking at.

This family was AMAZING! Completely hilarious through-out the whole shoot. When you find out you're going to be shooting multiple kids and you realize they are all under 5... you get the "oh boy" feeling.. But this was nothing like that! We had a blast!

This is just one of those moments, where I said, "ok, we're done... you guys start heading back and I'll follow". And Viola! Such a pure and simple moment that says so much!

You all know how I feel about my PUPS, this just tugs at my heart!

LOVE this lil' one, she looks so peaceful, and I would CHERISH this photo forever if this was my baby!

If you're starting out with an intimidating pile of stuff on and around your desk, don't despair. Take a deep breath and devote a small amount of time -- half an hour -- daily to sifting through it. This makes the job more manageable, and if you stick to the discipline of doing a little each day, you WILL reach the end of the stack.
Throw Out Those Old Papers
As you go through your stacks of paper, piles of files, mountains of magazines and so forth, ask yourself: Do I need this? Why? What happens to it next? Where will I look for it when I want it? (Not where should I put it). No filing system is good if you can't remember where you put things.
If you tend to save papers because you aren't sure whether or not you'll need them again, create a two-step trash system. I use a large wastebasket to toss anything I think I'm through with but not totally sure about. I keep another, smaller container for papers and other items that I'm sure are "trash." Empty your large basket only every few weeks; that way, you can retrieve anything you decide you shouldn't part with. Don't forget to put banana peels and other pungent disposables into the container that gets emptied frequently.

Keep Often-Used Items at Close Range
Items you use daily belong on your desk. Your computer, pens, calendar, message pad and anything else that's part of your daily routine can stay. Other items such as Scotch tape, stapler, calculator, writing paper and so on should be stored in your desk drawer -- handy to get at, but not in the way when you don't need them.
Don't Store Supplies in Your Desk
Fax and computer paper, extra pens, file folders and the like can be put in a cabinet across the room. I have a shelf over my desk for reference books I reach for frequently. They're always at hand but never in the way.
Don't Mix Business and Pleasure
Don't keep household paperwork such as bills, catalogs, vacation brochures and other personal items where they can distract you. Blending business and personal work at your desk is usually distracting rather than efficient.

Once you've worked your way through these tips, you will have a work space that makes you look forward to getting down to business every day. Good luck!

Spring Cleaning, Fun Kitchen Cabinet Make-Over!

Spring time is such a great time of year! It's starting to warm up outside, but not too hot yet. This is also, the time of year that we attempt to get organized! Maybe some spring cleaning & finishing up some of your house project "To-Do's." Here's a quick & easy, Kitchen Cabinet Make-Over Ideas! Why not give yourself a whole wall of Chalkboard space!? With a couple of hours, and a small list of supplies, you can have a Custom Chalkboard, without a "custom" price tag!

KITCHEN CABINET, CHALKBOARD MAKEOVER

Supplies:

TSP, or other gentle cleaner

Good Primer like Kilz

Edging Paint Brush
Paint Pan, liner & roller

Painters tape

Can of Chalkboard Paint (There are so many colors available now!)

**Check out Rust-Oleum Brand - Chalkboard Tint Base- 12 COLORS TO PICK FROM!

INSTRUCTIONS:

Figure out what cabinet, or cabinet wall you'd like to use. * Consider the side of the kitchen island, this is a great space for the kids to practice their artwork, and you can keep an eye on them while you cook!** I chose a side cabinet wall, nice and long and a totally unused space.

Give it a good scrub down with the TSP, this removes the built up grease, and any other grit on the area.

After its dried a little, tape off any area you don't want to get chalkboard paint on.

Put a nice layer of primer on, don't get crazy... you just need enough to cover the cabinets.

Most primers need about 2 hours to really dry, depending on the time of year and where you live, this may vary a bit.

When the primer is dry, you are READY TO PAINT! Have Fun, mix it up, maybe try a couple different colors, or paint a pattern. Whatever you choose, just make sure to let it dry in between applications, and do a couple coats. **Follow the manufacturers directions on the can.

THAT'S IT! You can add some mouldings around it if you'd like, and maybe some fun sayings, vinyl lettering.

The builders of the early 20th century's factories and warehouses would be amazed. Elements used back then to create sparse, utilitarian workspaces — things like roughhewn wooden tables, rolling carts, metal filing cabinets and industrial lighting — are now hot items in home decorating.
These pieces, along with exposed brick walls and cement floors, first became popular when urban industrial spaces were being transformed into chic loft apartments.
But the trend has made its way from downtown lofts to suburban living rooms. Homeowners are adding industrial flair to even the most traditionally decorated houses.
Emily Henderson, host and designer for HGTV's upcoming series "Secrets from a Stylist," is giving an industrial makeover to a Spanish-style house for an episode due to air in April.
Decorating with industrial elements "is so much fun," she says, and is becoming popular nationwide. Edison-style light bulbs are back. And current offerings from retailer Restoration Hardware include chairs and tables meant to look as though they were built from old airplane parts.

UP-Cycle! It's FUN & Good for the Enviroment!

As most of you know by now, I LOVE to UpCycle, Repurpose & Reuse, Old items, that many others consider to be "trash!" I really enjoy the process & the outcome of taking something old and rusty, and making it into something FAB! With a little "vision" and "elbow-grease" WE ALL can do this, and it really CAN make a difference on the environment, and the amount of waste that goes to landfills. I actually did a little research on the topic and was amazed at what I found. So I wanted to share it with all my friends!

Upcycling is a process in which disposable or discarded items are repurposed to make them valuable, useful, or simply aesthetically pleasing. Upcycling is designed to work in opposition to consumer culture, encouraging people to think of new and innovative ways to use things, instead of simply buying new consumer goods. It also benefits the environment, by promoting reuse over discarding whenever possible.

UPCYCLING VS. RECYLING~

Unlike traditional recycling, in which materials like plastic and paper are gradually degraded and can be reused only a limited number of times, upcycling turns waste into products of greater value. That offers hope for achieving the biggest goal of environmentally minded design, using materials again and again to keep them out of landfills. Supporters call it “closing the loop.”

It’s trying to change that mind-set, so that people move from a disposable mind-set into a constant reuse mind-set.

I've NEVER been one to ReCycle really or take the time to even learn the benefits of it. But I have learned A LOT from my Sister-in-Law, Lana! She has always been a big recycler, and the small things I've done in the past have been because of her.

Now it's become a passion of mine! I just love the transformation of taking something from "trash to treasure!"

I also think it's an amazing way to teach our kids about the environment and "Doing our part" to help it. I wanted to share a couple of my latest UPCYCLE projects, that I now sell at my ETSY Shop, these both came from old shutters, wood and other lil gems I found at one of my favorite Thrift Stores;

Habitat for Humanity's -ReStore. You should check it out, it's kind of a Goodwill meets Home Depot! It's Fab!

Recycled, Revamped, Renewed & Rewarding!

I love this time of year, and I am truly the happiest AND most grateful, I've ever been! I'm always "crafting" it seems, but lately... I'm in "CRAFTING OVERDRIVE!" We just bought our dream house in March and from the first time I laid eyes on this beauty, I KNEW that decorating it for the holidays was going to be SO much fun! But with the new mortgage, I've tried to be careful about my crafting expenses. So "repurposing" has become the name of the game around here! Now- the cheaper I can make it...the MORE I seem to love it. I wanted to share two of my latest little projects that I made... hope you enjoy!

RENEWED URNS & PUMPKIN TOPIARY

Here's how I did it...

These were an adorable addition to the front porch Halloween decorations, but I thought I could

Re-Reuse them for my topiary!

Then I did some more rummaging around, and came up with these...

**NOTE- For plastic, you MUST use primer made for plastic**

If you don't, the spray paint will chip off, and then you'll start to cry and then nobody's happy!

The pumpkins also got a coat of primer, to cover the pattern that was on them.

How does the saying go? "She who has the MOST spray paint WINS!?"

Then I went thru my left over ribbons, and fall accoutrement, and "prettied" her up!

I love the way it came out, and the best part is....it was FREE!

Pumpkin Pie Cookies Tutorial

With the weather turning cold, I always get in the mood to bake. So I wanted to share my Slice of Pumpkin Pie Cookies with y'all! These are always a hit at any holiday gathering, and they are actually pretty easy to make.

DIRECTIONS:

Start with a fresh batch of sugar cookie dough- I have attached my "tried & true" recipe below. Roll it out into a large round circle, then trace a circle out with a pie pan, remove the extra dough and place it back in the fridge to use later. Then cut your dough up into sections, as you would a pie. **Make note of the width of your slices**

Bake according to recipe below.

FOR THE "CRUST":

Cut small strips the same width of your slices and about a 1/2" high then crimp them as you would a regular pie crust. After crimping, reshape them back into a curve so that they will fit on top of the cookie after you ice them.

Bake according to recipe below.

While your cookies are cooling, make your "pumpkin pie filling"- which is just Royal Icing, see the recipe below. Save about 3/4 cup of plain white royal icing. This will be your "whipped cream" on top of the cookie. Add orange food coloring to the remainder of the icing until you have the desired color. I also add a little cinnamon to the frosting (for this recipe ONLY) it makes them taste a little more like "fall" and the specks of cinnamon make the frosting look like real pumpkin.

TO ASSEMBLE:

Outline & flood your bottom piece of cookie, and set aside to dry. Do the same with the rest of the bottom pieces. Then add your "crusts" by piping a little royal icing under the crust and set on top of the already frosted pie slices. Then pipe the white royal icing, that you set aside, on top in a circular motion, and Voilà! You've got the cutest lil pumpkin pie cookies that all your friends will love!

This is the BEST, and ONLY, sugar cookie recipe I ever use! I got it from Susan Carberry, Cake Artist extraordinaire, and owner of The Cake Cottage, in Murrieta, California. She has amazing classes and they carry a huge array of cake supplies. Check out her shop.

SUGAR COOKIE RECIPE

MAKES APPROX. 3 DOZEN 5" COOKIES

2 CUPS UNSALTED BUTTER, SOFTENED

2 CUPS GRANULATED SUGAR, I LIKE BAKERS SUGAR

2 EGGS

1 TSP VANILLA EXTRACT

2 TSP LEMON EXTRACT ( OR FLAVOR OF CHOICE)

**hint** I use Vanilla and Almond extract in my cookies, and lemon extract in my icing, and people LOVE it and can't quit figure out what it is!

6 CUPS ALL PURPOSE FLOUR

3 TSP BAKING POWDER

1 TSP SALT

Directions: In at least a 5 qt. mixer or a large bowl, cream the butter & the sugar until fluffy. Then add the eggs, mix. Add vanilla and lemon extract, mix.

In a seperate bowl, mix the flour, baking powder and salt together. Gradually add to the butter mixture until incorporated. Scrape bowl and mix until dough comes together.

They say- whoever "they" is, that you should wrap your dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour...but, I never do. I'm too impatient for that! So I take out a small amount and start cutting, and put the remainder in to chill while I'm working.

** Another Great TIP** Roll out cookies on parchment paper, cut shapes leaving space between the cookies, remove the excess dough from in between the shapes, leaving the cut shapes on the paper. Then, simply move the parchment with the cookies onto a cookie sheet.

When you've been working with the dough for a bit, it starts to warm up, so I put it back in the fridge and get out some of the colder dough. This helps keep the "spreading" of the cookie to a minimum.

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees for a regular oven or 300-325 degrees for a convection oven and bake, between 8-11 minutes until golden brown. I find it usually takes approx. 8 minutes!

ROYAL ICING RECIPE

MAKES 3 CUPS

4 cups POWDERED SUGAR

3 tablespoons meringue powder

½ TSP extract lemon

1/2 - 3/4 cup warm water

DIRECTIONS: In the bowl of your electric mixer (or with a hand mixer), beat the confectioners' sugar and meringue powder until combined. Add the water and beat on medium to high speed until very glossy and stiff peaks form (5 to 7 minutes). If necessary, to get the right consistency, add more powdered sugar or water.

To cover or 'flood' the entire surface of the cookie with icing, the proper consistency is when you lift the beater, the ribbon of icing that falls back into the bowl remains on the surface of the icing for a few seconds before disappearing.

The icing needs to be used immediately or transferred to an airtight container as royal icing hardens when exposed to air. Cover with plastic wrap when not in use.

Almost done with the Powder room makeover, but I had to stop and share my new piece of artwork I made especially for it. These subway signs are all the rage right now, and I LOVE, LOVE , LOVE them! My sign features streets that we've been to, lived on, have visited & DREAM to visit one day!

A Thanksgiving Turkey that even the Vegetarians will LOVE!

That's right, because this one is cake!
I made this one last year, for my sister in law to take to work, they had a childrens charity dessert auction. Don't ask me why, but making "food" cakes is my absolute fav! This was a spice cake with a really yummy cream cheese frosting! The "stuffing" was just extra cake that I cut up. All of the "veggies" and decorations are gumpaste. I bet the kids would eat these brussel sprouts!

Nobody LOVES Halloween more than I do, but I'm getting excited for Thanksgiving/Harvest. This year has brought so many things, people & memories to be thankful for!
Do you have a special tradition with your kids/family that you celebrate at Thanksgiving? I'd love to hear them. I hope that you all are blessed- not just during these upcoming holidays, but all year long!

From Trash to Sass- Lamp Makeover!

Here's a quick way to add a little something extra to your holiday decor. I love to shop for lamps at The Goodwill, or as I like to call it- "The G Boutique!" Click on the link, to find one near you. On this particular day, I picked up three lamps with shades for $8! I sprayed it with some primer first, then a couple coats of shiny black spray paint (KRYLON of course) and I was off to a great start. For the shade, a light coat of spray adhesive and some "CA-UTE" zebra Halloween fabric on sale from Joanne's. Of course I had to add some fringe! Seems I can't make anything lately without some fringe, feathers or glitter...but why would you!? That's it! Super easy, quick & cheap- just the way I like it. I love the way it came out and it looks so cute with my zebra and leopard painted pumpkins by it. Stay tuned for a Christmas edition!

I absolutely LOVE this time of year! And now that it has finally cooled off, it is really starting to feel like fall. I was so excited, while grocery shopping today, to see the variety of pumpkins they had at Albertson's!

It's so hard to find different varieties of pumpkins to decorate with, so I was thrilled to see these beauties...

The largest pumpkin pie ever made was over five feet in diameter and weighed over 350 pounds. It used 80 pounds of cooked pumpkin, 36 pounds of sugar, 12 dozen eggs and took six hours to bake.

I'm FINALLY getting around to some of the make-over projects in our new house, even though we've been here eight months already! I have done a LOT in the yard already, a quite a few rooms in the house, but deep down... I know I'll never really be done! Anyways- I wanted to share a really quick, pretty simple project I did in the foyer area. I LOVE the way it came out & think it adds a little sass to the front of the house!

These were fairly easy to do, I just measured the height of the wall to figure out the number of stripes and the height. I used a level to draw the lines. I painted the white with a flat paint, and the black was done in an eggshell. The different sheens give it a nice depth.
